Morning Surprise

Saturday while doing my grocery shopping I saw some Hyacinth in the flower section.  This pot of Hyacinths cost $4.00, I picked one that hadn't bloom but wasn't sure what color mine would be.

When I came downstairs this morning this is what greeted me.
Mine is pink!!!  Just right for this Easter.

Moving Pots to the East Balcony

Today I started moving my container garden to my eastern balcony.  My biggest worry are the cats that killed my plants last year using them as a kitty box!!!  I put red pepper flakes, hot spices on top on the moss on the top of each plant.  My grandmother, Granny taught me this, we'll see if it works.  LOL

The western barrel has a Canna Lily that should grow to be about 3 foot.

Rosemary, Marigolds and assorted seeds.

Our neighbors love to have a beer and a smoke at our community table.

Flowers, tomato plant, squash and a few red onions in the long planter.  For summer salads!!

I picked up an Elkhorn Fern at Lowes for $2.00.  It has a new home by my back door.

New hanging basket with petunia & tomato plant on top Marigolds are on the other side.
Strawberry pot.

Cherry tomato, in a clay pot with Marigolds, a white zucchini, and Morning Glories and assorted small salad goodies.

Wooden planter with Sunflower, Morning Glories already vining around the chicken wire, next to it a Tomatillo with 4 little buds.

Rooster oval tin with heirloom tomato, pepper, squash and basil plants.  Just need to add some chives for a great salad.

Container Balcony Garden

I've been following Fern's blog all winter long waiting impatiently to start a container garden on my east and west balcony at our new townhouse.  She ask her followers to buy the same 5 seed packets, start our seeds indoor till we can pot them in a container then record how each pot is doing all over the world.

My seeds arrived 2 weeks ago, I bought a Jiffy greenhouse at Walmart to start the experience for Texas.  My little seedlings have began to sprout so now I've been hunting a permanent container for their summer home.  Found one at Ross (markdown!!!) about 18 inches deep.

Here are the seeds from Botanical Interests:

Sunflower Sunspot - grows to be about 18 to 24 inches tall
Garlic Chinese Chives -
Tomato Bush Better Bush -
Cucumber Spacemast -
Purple Petra Basil -

Except for the Sunflowers sounds like a good salad just add lettuce.

I planted the seeds on March 3, today all are popping their heads up.
Updates to follow!!

The Big Move

Last October Rooster and I moved out of our family home to downsize to a smaller place. We choose a townhouse in town.

Life is different and exciting making a new nest for the two of us. Getting rid of the junk has been an ongoing process, going from 4000 sq ft to 1400 sq ft. What to keep, sell, donate, give to the peeps, or toss out.

Walking the dogs instead of letting them into the backyard is still in training for both us and the dogs. We've only had to chase Cindy Lou Who 3 times after she made a great escape. The older dogs have settled in nicely.

This spring I've developed a new interest in container gardening. I started the seeds indoors in February, slowly moving them to bigger containers on my balcony. My balconies one facing west the other facing east hopefully will be overflowing with flowers, veggies and little trees by summer time.
